Frequently asked questions

What is editorial photography?

Editorial photography covers a wide range of different styles but primarily focuses on documenting current events. Alamy Editorial's vision is to offer true, authentic content of what's happening around the globe.

What does editorial use only mean?

Most of the images on Alamy can be used editorially as you don’t usually need a model or property release, but there are some images that have been restricted for editorial use, this means they can't be licensed for commercial use. If this is the case, you’ll be able to see this on the image page. You’ll notice a blue box above the pricing section of the image page, which will notify you of any restrictions that are in place.

We can help clear editorial imagery for commercial use, so if you've seen an editorial image you'd like to use commercially, get in touch.

What does the Alamy Editorial license allow?

Predominately with editorial use, images are used to support text, so most usages are by customers such as newspapers, magazines and textbooks.
